🚨 New Chatting with Chat Episode 🚨 What if healthcare’s innovation problem is not a lack of technology, but our habit of using new technology to preserve old systems? Dr. Lyle Berkowitz has watched this happen from inside Northwestern Medicine and now as founder and executive chairman of KeyCare. When electronic medical records were first introduced, physicians were asked what they wanted. Their answer was something that looked like paper. We took a new tool with entirely different possibilities and used it to recreate the system people already knew. The same tension exists with virtual care. The technology can help physicians manage more patients outside the office, but many are still measured by how many people they see in person. I see this at @Care+Wear too. Traditional patient gowns often provide clinical access at the expense of patient coverage and dignity. We worked with patients and clinicians to redesign the Patient Gown so it could support all three. New technology does not automatically create a new way of working. Sometimes it allows an outdated assumption to survive in a more modern form. Thank you, Dr. Lyle, for such a thought-provoking conversation. Healthcare leaders, what accepted part of care would you rethink today? #ChattingWithChat #HealthcareInnovation #DigitalHealth #HealthcareLeadership
