Isis and Osiris: The God Who Was Killed and Brought Back | Egyptian Myth Sleep Story

Osiris is the good king of Egypt, who teaches his people to farm and to live by laws, until his jealous brother Set tricks him into a beautiful chest at a feast and sends it down the Nile to the sea. His wife Isis follows it all the way to Byblos, finds it sealed inside a palace pillar and brings him home, but Set finds the chest again and scatters Osiris in fourteen pieces across Egypt. With her sister Nephthys, Isis gathers every piece, and with her wings she brings him back to life long enough to conceive their son Horus before Osiris goes to rule the dead. Isis hides the boy in the marshes, and when he is grown he takes his claim to the throne before the court of the gods. For eighty years he and his uncle Set argue and compete, through tricks, contests and a letter to Osiris in the land of the dead, until the gods crown Horus king. Based on Plutarch's On Isis and Osiris, with Diodorus Siculus, the Great Hymn to Osiris, the Pyramid Texts, the Metternich Stela for Isis and the seven scorpions, and the Contendings of Horus and Set for the court of the gods. This is an ancient Egyptian myth, told as a sleep story. 0:00 The five extra days 3:25 The good king 5:56 The chest at the feast 7:57 What the children saw 9:38 The spring at Byblos 11:30 The pillar 12:39 Hunting by moonlight 13:56 The papyrus boat 15:51 Wings over Osiris 17:26 Seven scorpions 21:20 Hidden in the reeds 24:40 Lessons from the dead 26:07 The court of the gods 29:04 Neith's answer 30:53 Set makes his case 32:15 The ferryman 33:47 The herdsman's widow 36:59 The harpoon 39:59 The gazelle's milk 41:36 Ships of stone 43:31 A letter to the dead 45:40 The white crown #IsisAndOsiris #EgyptianMythology #SleepStory #AncientEgypt #EgyptianGods #Mythology #BedtimeStory #SleepStoriesForAdults
