Perseus and Medusa: He Beheaded the Gorgon Looking Only at Her Reflection | Greek Myth Sleep Story

King Acrisius of Argos is told that his daughter's son will kill him, so he locks Danaë in a bronze room under the ground. Zeus reaches her as a shower of gold, and when the baby Perseus is found, the king sets mother and child adrift in a wooden chest. A fisherman pulls them from the sea at Seriphos, where the island's king tricks the grown Perseus into promising him the head of Medusa. With help from Hermes and Athena he takes the one eye of the Grey Sisters, flies in winged sandals to the edge of the world, and cuts off Medusa's head while looking only at her reflection in his bronze shield. On the way home he kills a sea monster to free Andromeda from her rock, and turns his rivals to stone at the wedding feast. Then he goes to make peace with his grandfather, and a discus caught by the wind does what the oracle said. Based on Apollodorus's Library, with Pherecydes, Ovid's Metamorphoses, Simonides' Danaë, Hesiod, Pindar, Aeschylus, Pausanias and Hyginus. This is an ancient Greek myth, told as a sleep story. 0:00 Perseus and Medusa 0:38 Twin brothers 2:12 The bronze room 4:23 The chest on the sea 6:04 The fisherman's net 7:29 The king's feast 9:42 Hermes and Athena 11:56 The Grey Sisters 13:12 The winged sandals 14:51 The sleeping Gorgons 17:09 Snakes in the desert 17:59 The girl on the rock 20:59 The sea monster 23:08 Seaweed into coral 24:27 The wedding feast 26:01 Two hundred statues 29:59 Home to Seriphos 31:50 The gifts given back 32:45 The games at Larissa 34:43 The city of Mycenae #PerseusAndMedusa #GreekMythology #SleepStory #GreekMyths #Medusa #Mythology #BedtimeStory #SleepStoriesForAdults
