Solar cargo bike 12V cooking day trip with foldable solar panels, fish and rice, and a small e-bike range extension on an 80 km ride in the countryside.
I wanted to see if a lighter solar setup could still be useful for a relaxed day trip: cook a warm meal outside, charge from the sun, and get home without bringing the heavier panels or extra battery.
The plan was simple: ride to a small village, find something local to cook, look for a good place to stop, and use the 12V system on the cargo bike to make the day work.
The bakery was closed, so I found a smoked fish shop instead and bought halibut and rollmops. The first planned stop, a ruin I had seen on the map, turned out to be the wrong place. Eventually I found a bench in a birdwatching area, unpacked the foldable panels, cooked rice with fish, and charged the e-bike battery while I waited.
The panels collected about 200 Wh during the stop. That covered the cooking, the cameras, and put about 19 km back into the bike battery. I got home with 9 km left on the display.
Not a huge reserve, but enough — and with much less stuff on the bike.
