Boring history for sleep: what people really ate in Tudor England, from the farmhouse kitchen to the Twelve Days of Christmas. Come back to the 1550s and spend a slow autumn and winter with a Suffolk farming family by the great open hearth.
Tonight's story follows Thomas Wren, a yeoman farmer in Suffolk around 1550, his wife Margery, their daughter Joan and Agnes, the young maidservant who lives with them, from harvest to Twelfth Night: the hall and its new brick chimney, bread, pottage and ale, the dairy and the kitchen garden, the harvest supper, baking day and brewing day, salting the winter stores and keeping the fish days, and the Twelve Days of Christmas.
History to fall asleep to: a calm sleep story for adults, read slowly by the fire.
The pictures fade into a quiet hearth after about half an hour, and the last ten minutes are only the fire, so nothing on the screen will wake you.
Which art style do you prefer: 1, 2 or 3? Tell us in the comments. And what time is it where you are, and where are you listening from?
