The F-35 Lightning II isn't built around one weapon or one mission. Its real strength comes from combining stealth, sensors, electronic warfare and an expanding arsenal designed to solve completely different battlefield problems.
In this video, we explore 6 very different F-35 missions — from hunting enemy aircraft beyond visual range to suppressing air defenses, striking moving ground targets, electronic warfare, nuclear deterrence and future long-range maritime strike.
✈️ THE 6 MISSIONS:
1. Air Superiority — AIM-120 AMRAAM
A radar-guided air-to-air missile designed to engage enemy aircraft beyond visual range while allowing the F-35 to preserve its low-observable configuration through internal carriage.
2. Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses — AGM-88G AARGM-ER
A next-generation anti-radiation weapon designed for highly contested airspace and advanced enemy air-defense systems, with F-35 integration forming part of its evolving capability.
3. Precision Ground Strike — GBU-53/B StormBreaker
A compact precision weapon designed to engage fixed and moving targets using multiple guidance methods, including radar, infrared and laser guidance.
4. Nuclear Deterrence — B61-12
The F-35A brings a nuclear deterrence role to a fifth-generation low-observable fighter, with specially designated units certified for the B61-12 mission.
5. Electronic Warfare — AN/ASQ-239
This one never leaves the aircraft. The F-35's integrated electronic warfare suite helps detect and locate electromagnetic threats, support targeting and protect the aircraft before a weapon is ever launched.
6. Maritime Strike — AGM-158C LRASM
A long-range anti-ship missile designed for contested maritime environments. LRASM integration with the F-35C continues to progress, pointing toward an increasingly powerful future maritime role.
The F-35 isn't simply about how many missiles it can carry. It's about how many different problems the aircraft can help solve before the enemy can find it.
Air-to-air combat. SEAD. Precision strike. Nuclear deterrence. Electronic warfare. Maritime warfare.
Six missions. Six very different answers.
