How We Hiked Darband: Wild Sour Street Food, River Cafes & Shirpala Peak

Cafés right in the river, Persian snacks, and a trail leading high into the mountains! Join us as we explore Darband in Tehran, Iran, and trek up to Shirpala Shelter at 2,750 meters. We arrive early in the morning, while the path is still peaceful and most cafés haven’t opened yet. Along the way, we pass fruit stalls filled with lavashak, soaked plums, and dried apricots, and take a look at the carpeted platforms where people can sit over the running water, drink tea, and enjoy a meal. One of our favorite moments along the trail is meeting a little girl selling her own paintings to passing hikers. 🎨 But we’re not stopping at the cafés! We keep heading into the Alborz Mountains as the walk turns into a more serious trek. Our journey takes us to Twin Waterfall and finally Shirpala Shelter, where we wrap up our hike.
