Nokia isn't dead. It's actually making more money than back when it sold a phone every 3 seconds. In 2007, Nokia dominated the global mobile market with the best-selling phone in history, the Nokia 1100. Six years later, the iPhone, Symbian, Stephen Elop's "burning platform" memo and the failed marriage with Microsoft had wiped out the Finnish empire. The stock fell 93% and all of Finland lost a decade. But Microsoft only bought the phones. The rest is still running: €19 billion in revenue, one of only 3 global telecom equipment makers alongside Ericsson and Huawei, and 20,000 patent families. These are standard essential patents that nobody can work around, and they bring in €1.4 billion a year at an 85% margin. Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi all pay. The brand the iPhone killed earns a royalty on every iPhone sold. #nokia #business
