Helping learners deal with migration issues The aim of the talk is to discover how picture books can be used to help learners deal with migration, develop empathy, respect and tolerance. Picture books about immigration can be windows to help students understand the challenges of immigration as emotionally, physically, and mentally experiences. They can also be bridges to different cultures, beliefs and traditions. The talk is an invitation to see stories as powerful tools for opening young minds to courage, resilience and determination and to help students reflect upon realities different from their own. Speaker: Paola Dell Acqua Paola is a teacher of English who specialises in children's books and literature. She has worked promoting reading for pleasure in class for many years. She devotes her time to discovering books and creating resources. She also has projects to connect stories with art, creative thinking and writing. She offers her services to schools, academies and teachers to include reading in class.
