Hello and Welcome to Deaf Talks News! Imagine you are living 5000 years ago. There are no pens. No paper. No books. If you want to remember something important, you have only two options. Remember it in your head Or scratch it on a stone. But scratching on stone takes hours and you cannot carry a stone everywhere. Human beings desperately needed a better way to write. 5000 years ago Egyptians burned things and took black powder that mixed with water created a dark liquid. They used this liquid to write on plants. Similarly in ancient Indian scholars a mixture of different ashes and water. Write on palm leaves. Later they tried different mixtures of burnt bones, charcoal from various plants, tar and pitch. Mixed with water and animal glue a dark permanent liquid formed. It lasted for centuries without fading. After that as traders and merchants crossed the countries. They carried knowledge and goods between India, China, Persia, Arabia and Europe. Ink travelled with them. Arabian scholars discovered Indian and Chinese ink techniques. They improved the recipes adding new ingredients to make ink darker and more permanent. Today ink has evolved into thousands of different types. From palm leaves to 3D printed human organs. That is the 5000 year journey of ink.
