An evening of filming at the Chichester pair. Both level crossings are directly connected by a walkway behind the bus station, and they are less than 100 metres apart. They are operated together from Chichester Signal Box at the other end of the station, and you can often tell whether a crossing is going to stay lowered if the one a train passed first doesn't raise straightaway. Unfortunately, some pretty poor operations towards the end of my visit limited the amount of lowerings I could film in the time I had, as all of a sudden the aim of the game seemed to cause as much delay and gridlock as possible - genuinely excessively so. Nonetheless, this was my smoothest visit here thus far; I genuinely enjoyed this visit here, well needed after a pretty bad day.
Both level crossings have four alarms, and in their current forms date back to full renewals in 2005. Stockbridge Road Level Crossing, the one directly beside Chichester Station with three road lanes, has intriguingly held onto its 5-second timer for the amber lights to show (compared to Basin Road's 3-second timer). This one has only one 'SPX Fluid Power' pedestal from its original commissioning left though, unlike Basin Road Level Crossing between the Bus Station and maintenance depot on a much quieter street which keeps all four. One alarm at Basin Road has been 'warbling' for many years now, though it has never shown any sign of worsening or at all failing to provide the warning it's meant to, much to the contrary of the fuss certain folks (particularly around Lincoln) make over a perfectly working alarm that makes a slightly different sound to what they like...
