Your spine is designed to MOVE.
Don’t just create range of motion.
Build strength and control in that range.
In this video, I walk through four unconventional exercises I use to improve thoracic spine mobility, trunk strength, and control through ranges of motion that are often neglected in traditional training.
We’ll work on:
• Supine weight-assisted thoracic extension
• Side-lying weight-assisted lateral bending
• Cable-assisted sit-ups
• Reverse cable-assisted sit-ups for full rectus abdominis training
The goal is to combine mobility with strength. Improving your ability to extend and laterally bend through the thoracic spine while also developing better control of the rib cage, abdominals, and trunk.
A lot of people spend time stretching a stiff mid-back but never actually strengthen and control the new ranges they’re trying to create. These exercises take a different approach by using resistance and assistance to progressively expose the spine and surrounding musculature to movement.
These movements can be especially useful for people looking to improve:
• Thoracic extension and mid-back mobility
• Lateral bending and rib cage movement
• Abdominal strength through a larger range of motion
• Trunk and spinal control
• Overall movement capacity
The goal is controlled movement through a comfortable range—not forcing your spine into positions it isn’t prepared for.
