Hitting the wall isn't bad luck and it isn't your fitness. It's pacing. In this video I show you how to stop blowing up and run the race your training actually earned.
Two runners, two first marathons. Robin paced it beautifully and ran 3:15 for a Boston Qualifier. Meredith went out over threshold and the wheels came off at mile 15. I put their real pace and heart rate data side by side so you can see the difference, then I give you the fix.
What you'll learn:
. Why Robin's heart rate curve is damn near perfect. A gradual climb, held to mile 20, then a kick to the line.
. The dead simple trick she used. One number, her 5K split, written on her arm. No mid race math.
. Where Meredith's race fell apart. Heart rate at threshold by mile 5, glycogen gone, legs cooked.
. The threshold rule that keeps you out of trouble. Don't touch your one hour heart rate until after mile 20.
. How I pace my own races and coach my athletes. Marathon pace long runs, effort, breathing, and reading your watch.
. The fuel math nobody explains. Go out easy and you save your glycogen. Go out hot and you torch it, then you hit the wall.
Execution is the goal. A well paced, well fueled marathon is the win, and the time is just your reward. Don't spend months training just to ruin it in the first mile.
