Undercover Dean Martin Orders Steak — Black Waitress Slips Him a Note That Stops Him Cold
Los Angeles, 1971. An anonymous letter arrives at Dean Martin's house, addressed to a name almost nobody alive still used: Dino Crocetti. It claims that terrible things are happening at the famous Sunset Boulevard steakhouse that carries his name — and it ends with one warning: "Don't come as Dean Martin."
So he didn't.
With a fake gray beard, a torn denim jacket and a battered old cowboy hat from a studio wardrobe, the King of Cool walked into his own restaurant looking like a drifter off a freight train. The manager wanted him thrown out. The customers stared. Only one young waitress treated him with dignity.
Then she slid a folded note under his steak plate. Eleven words. Words about a man Dean Martin hadn't seen in almost forty years — and a night in Steubenville, Ohio, that he had never told another living soul about.
What Dean did next silenced the entire restaurant.
This video is a dramatized retelling inspired by the life and career of Dean Martin, with references to Sammy Davis Jr. and Frank Sinatra. Dialogue and certain events have been recreated for storytelling purposes.
