Grandpa McCann's 1940s One-Armed Bandit Restored | The Repair Shop UK | S7 E49

A jammed 1940s one-armed bandit meets its match. Jeff Harvey dives into decades of seized grease and a welded-tight handle to revive Tim McCann’s childhood fruit machine, a gift from his dapper granddad, Cornelius of Sunderland. Inside the barn, Will Kirk tackles a Gothic fly-tying table from Delphi Lodge in the west of Ireland, battling woodworm, a widening top split, and missing carved acorns tied to a daughter’s memories of fishing with her father. Meanwhile, Steve Fletcher faces a mechanical “pancake dog” chef whose flips once made two siblings howl with laughter — and now might help spark memories for a father living with dementia. Hear the first clean whir, the decisive clunk, and see which tiny fixes unlocked big emotions. From acorn turnings to a stubborn motor commute, the team’s quiet breakthroughs lead to one jaw-dropping reunion after another. Watch to discover how each piece finally comes back to life — and why one machine suddenly can’t stop paying out for its original owner.
