Parag Shah belongs to the Gujarati Jain community. During the sacred Jain holy month his spiritual guru Namramuni gave him a very unusual spiritual guidance. He was asked to spend one full day living as a beggar. On September 14 he left behind all his security guards and assistants. He put on dirty makeup disguising himself so nobody could recognise him. And he walked Mumbai's streets as a beggar for the entire day. The experiences he had that day were deeply moving. One ordinary person gave him 20 rupees and said go eat something Baba. One samosa vendor when Parag said he had no money gave him a free samosa without any hesitation. After the experience Parag Shah spoke very emotionally. When I went dressed as a beggar the very same people who normally queue up to meet me suddenly felt superior to me. That is the bitter truth of life.
