The Ripples We Leave Behind

Sometimes we imagine that the things we say and do are small - little moments that disappear almost as quickly as they happen. But what if they don't? A kind word. A warm greeting. A moment when we choose to notice someone. A little encouragement when we have no idea how much another person may need it. Like a pebble dropped into still water, our words and actions create ripples. We may never see where those ripples go, or know whose life they touch along the way. In this video, we share a simple story about a woman who was having a very difficult day. She felt discouraged and almost invisible. Then, in passing, someone looked at her and said words that lifted her heart. Perhaps that's one reason we are called to be careful with what we place into the lives of others. We rarely know the full weight of our words. Scripture reminds us: “A gentle answer turns away wrath.” — Proverbs 15:1 “Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up... that it may give grace to those who hear.” — Ephesians 4:29 And Jesus reminds us: “As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” — John 13:34 So today, perhaps we can ask ourselves: What kind of ripple will I leave behind me? Maybe it doesn't have to be something extraordinary. Maybe it begins with simply noticing someone. Maybe it begins with a smile. Maybe it begins with saying, “It's good to see you.” Thank you for coming to sit for a while.
