On 2 May 2025, Rodney Hinton Jr. watched the Cincinnati police bodycam video of his 18-year-old son Ryan's death. About three hours later, his car struck and killed retired Hamilton County Sheriff's deputy Larry Henderson, who was directing graduation traffic at Martin Luther King Drive and Burnet Woods Drive by the University of Cincinnati. Hinton is on trial for aggravated murder and pleads not guilty by reason of insanity. This is the case file from the court record: the bodycam viewing, the loop back into the police lot, the black box data, "I had to turn a little bit to hit him", the expert fight over right and wrong, and the late reckless homicide option. It is not a verdict video. As of 19 October 2026, the jury has not reached a verdict. Testimony ended on 16 October; closing arguments were set for Tuesday, 20 October 2026, in the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas (Judge Jody M. Luebbers). Rodney Hinton Jr. is presumed innocent of the charges, and the jury will decide. He has never denied driving the car; the question is his state of mind. Both sides are given: the state's case (Det. Carl Beebe, crash reconstructionist Mike Flamm, Dr. Jaimie Adkins, court-appointed Dr. Jennifer O'Donnell) and the defence's (his family, Dr. Maria Espinola, Clyde Bennett II). Tell us in the comments. The jury can return: aggravated murder (two counts), murder, reckless homicide (a lesser charge allowed on 15 October 2026, a third-degree felony with a maximum of three years), or not guilty by reason of insanity (no prison; the court would decide on commitment to a psychiatric hospital). The death penalty was taken off the table in January 2026 after prosecutors conceded his serious mental illness. Everything the psychologists say is opinion evidence given in court; the black box numbers are as read by the state's crash reconstructionist. Ryan Hinton's shooting on 1 May 2025 is covered only as context: Hamilton County Prosecutor Connie Pillich found the officer legally justified in June 2025; the officer was not charged or named.
