Tuesday, October 13 | THANK GOD for Your Health Today | Morning Prayer for Healing & Strength

When was the last time you thanked God for your heartbeat? This morning prayer is for everyone whose body isn't what it used to be: the knees that ache, the thicker glasses, the fuller medicine cabinet. It is also an invitation to notice everything that still works. We begin by praising the Giver of breath and the Keeper of every heartbeat. Then we meet a woman at her yearly checkup. The nurse hands her the stethoscope, and for the first time in more than seventy years, she listens to her own heart and stops to thank God for it. The most faithful work your body does happens without your asking: the heart beating, the lungs breathing, the small wound quietly healing. It is a picture of God holding you every second, whether you notice or not. We open John's loving wish for his friend in 3 John 1:2. We remember that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, that your health is not a measure of your faith, and that a merry heart does good like a medicine. We walk with the ten men Jesus healed and ask to be like the one who came back to give thanks. We also meet five older women who show up every morning to move their bodies, encourage one another, and thank God for whatever measure of health they still have. Then we thank Him part by part, pray for healing and strength where it is needed, and rest in this truth: our times are in His hand.
